Little Punkins

I thought that showing my Kindergarten students how to make pumpkins out of paper strips would be a good paper sculpting introduction, teaching them some basic sculpture methods, as well as being just seasonal enough to hold their interest. I did not emphasize jack- o- lanterns, rather pumpkins, since many had recently been to the pumpkin patch. We did add googly eyes, because well, there were a lot of steps to this project, and adding eyes seems to be a great "carrot" for students to follow directions.

Shoe Painting

As a fun, interesting way to use up the left over Chihuly supplies, I hosted a "shoe painting" after school for my 2nd and 3rd graders. They will wear their "Chihuly Shoes" on Thursday as they walk our exhibit with their parents. It was a great success, and a huge mess, but aren't all the best art projects?

Ikebana's on Display-4th Grade

We are preparing for the grand finale of the Chihuly Unit- A Chihuly Night- we will host on Thursday Night, from 5:00-6:30, and will be showing off our installations, and Chihuly Projects. I'm bribing my students with a secret door prize for the first 100 students in the door...

4th Grade Ikebanas

By using the same type method used for creating clay rattles (minus the rattles inside) my 4th graders and I were able to create very effective "Ikebana" shapes. While waiting for the kiln to fire (which is a story in itself- Thanks Mr. E!) we made "flowers" out of water bottles, pipe cleaners, cellophane shreds and acrylic paint. We then arranged our creations, adding in a few extra pipe cleaners for volume.
